After many years of watching owls in Stanley Park I now have quite a collection of photos along with much information on their territories and family life. So I decided to document some of it - which led to the web site you now have before you.
Although other species of owl may live in the park, almost all my encounters have been with Barred Owls. For more information on all species see the Species page.
This site is scheduled for replacement in late 2021. The original intent (2009) was to provide background information on the owls and track their lives over several years. Unfortunately I never really had the time to dedicate to that pursuit - too busy working and out watching owls!
In 2018 I removed the incomplete bits and generally tidied things up. The replacement site - StanleyParkOwls - will simply recount a few sightings of various families over the decade or so that I tracked owls there before moving to Victoria in late 2019. Expect lots of photos!
As part of these changes another site has been created for more general information (and photos) for the owls I have encountered in Stanley Park and others in the Lower Mainland and now Greater Victoria - OwlsInParks - that is also a work in progress. Both these sites will have a more streamlined look.
In the meantime, most of my (non-work, non-owling) time is dedicated to updating my general photography site - mtwPhoto - complete with a dedicated Owls gallery.
One final reason for depricating the current site is the occasional confusion with a UK football (soccer) team called the Owls (they have a park, apparentley).
